Halle Saale Station Side Entrance
But if we wander around a bit more we would find things somewhat more complicated. Whilst one set of tracks passes close to the afprementionerd side door, another set ......disappears off under the railway viaducts in one direction and, in the opposite direction ...... plunges under a spaghetti of roads.
If you know where to look, you can actually download a detailed track plan of all the tram routes in Halle, including the baffling area round the station, which becomes slightly less baffling when you have the diagram in front of you. But that is for later!
But, if we wander round a little more we will spot this ...... which looks like a bus station. Because it is a bus station.
But it is a stonkingly spectacular bus station which replaced an old and tired facility. Here is the new one, by day ...... and along the line of stands. But it is by night that it really shines! And shines is what it does ...... from every direction.A good phrase to describe it is "Creating Desire"!!!
So, for no other reason than this picture popped up on a search for "Halle Saale Buses", fbb decided to try a virtual expedition by bus.fbb had not an inkling of where Heide Nord was, but a theoretical ride on an articulated Mercedes would be a good test of public transport information in Halle. So, to the web site. We are offered a wide range of exciting things to do, as usual.Having enjoyed Guten Dinge and 100% OKO STROM (ooh nasty) fbb turned to the important stuff. There's lots of Fahr and Fahrt with Plane, Planer and Plananderugen. Hmm, half remembered "O" level; struggles. Fortunately Fahrtenplaner is answered by a Fahrtenplaner. So, hopefully Fahrplane might take us to departure lists or even timetables, and Liniennetz should be a map.Looks promising on both counts. You can enter a tram and bus line number in the search box above and th map might help you find which "line" to enter. It looks as if the old man is in business, despite the roughness of his very basic linguistic skills.!
The Beauty Of TransportIf it were a bit more blotchy it could almost have a touch of the Matisse about it ...... but where is it? (Erm, not the Matisse, that is a bit too obvious, even for fbb)
Next Halle blog : Sunday 7th February
You might also find an aerial view of roofs and tram tracks at Szell Kalman Ter in Budapest to be of interest - although it was better when there was a balloon reversing loop as well!
