Guess the Meaning of Gaziantep's Mystery

A reminder that Gaziantep in south eastern Turkey, near the border with Syria, has a network of THREE tram routes. In the order of opening they are shown on the above map as:-

1 : RED Adliye, University, Burc Kavagi

2 : BLUE  Adliye, Central Station

3 : GREEN  Central Station, University, Ibn-I Sina

As far as fbb could discern, this is how the three lines are described and promoted in the Turkish City. So when correspondent Andrew sent a link to a departure list as shown yesterday ...
This would appear to the line 3 (
GREEN) and the list of stops confirms this ...
... as does the simple computer generated map.
But the departure list heading on-line says this ...
... not T3 GREEN but T1 RED.

The other two lines show incorrect labels and colours.
fbb has no idea what is going on!

Big Happenings At Barrow Haven
For those whose geography of North Lincolnshire (formerly Humberside) is weak (like fbb's), Barryopw Haven is one stop east from Barton on Humber.

Many moons ago, you could continue beyond Barton to New Holland to catch a ferry over the river to get to Kingston upon Hull.
Before that arrival of the Humber Bridge ...
... both passengers and cars were carried ...
... from New Holland Pier.
fbb went there once and it was a desolate place, almost scary!
Barrow Haven is/was a small harbour a little way east along the Humber coast.

The village, hardly worthy of the name, is strung out along Ferry Road ...
... (note the remains of the old windmill) which brings you to the level crossing at the station.
Streetview does not venture into scary territory beyond the crossing which now gives access to some industrial premises. But once upon a time there was a ferry.
The ferry ran to Hull.
Barrow Haven station was never very busy but, at one stage, it did have a station building ...
... which included a lavishly appointed waiting room with heater!
All gone now, just leaving the single platform plus minuscule hut for the convenience of the flocking crowds of passengers.
But the station has recently re-opened after a ymjor rebuild. So now it looks like this!
New lights, loadsa new railings, neyqw hut and a new platfrorm have all cost a modest ...

£1.3 million!

In year 2020 to 2021 Barrow Haven had an annual total of 96 pasengers.; That is £13.541 per passenger.

Yikes! No wonder rail fares are so high.

Less Expensive Railway Re-Build
After lightening the grass, there were gaps to be filled at the foot of the rock face. And an old quarry, now no longer in production, would soon lose it clean-cut features.

The two bunk houses used by volunteers at the railway have also been replanted ...
Although not entirely clear from the small picture above, the "grass" and "foliage" have been made a little more variagated and thus more realistic by generous sprinklings of "scatter grass" ...
... so not soup mix after all!

Also please note the first stages of lightening up the track ballast. The original was dark and industrial, not at all suitable for a rural heritage railway.
More on this exciting development in due course!

More Zaps Perhaps?
In his valedictory twitter as a farewell to Transdev's York to Leeds City Zap (which ended yesterday), boss Alex Hornby dropped a teasing hint.
Yo might suppose the brand could re-appear over the Pennines in the Lancashire ambit of Transdev.

Tomorrow we go to Derby.

  1. I'm going to assume that the previous platform was in such bad shape it had to be replaced, and no-one wanted to deal with the paperwork nightmare of closing the station
