Gaziray Today - Hooray! (Part 2)

 Eyeball Stabbing - A Report

The "macular" injections were made in both eyes and, although scary and a little uncomfortable at times, there was no pain and fbb hardly noticed the needle as it approached. The injections were near instant.

The metal clips used to hold the eye open were a bit prickly. They looked a bit like the clips that hold a GU10 LED bulb in a ceiling socket.

Once injected the gunk swirls around in the eyeball creating odd snatches of psychedelic weirdness ...

... but in monochrome! Back to the 60s when fbb certainly didn't!

fbb therefore plodded on with today's' blog but with readers' understanding if there are any short comings.

Two more monthly session to go then a re-assesment.

Thanks, NHS, you done good yesterday.

And High Speed As Well

As well as the recently opened suburban line (of which more below) a High Speed line is under construction between Mersin and Gaziantep. This will be about 195 miles in length and is due to open in 2025.
The line from Mersin will eventually link up with a High Speed line from Ankara.
Maps of the new line are generally not of high quality with the offering below missing out the edges. But please note that the High Speed trains will enter Gaziantep via Baspinar.
Baspinar is the terminus of Gaziray's "northern" section ...
... so the infrastructure serves a double purpose.

This will be Baspinar station ...
... and fbb has learned another Turkish word as he followed the line into the city centre.
It will have its very own station, called Stadyum.

For some distance, the upgraded/new line follows a main dual carriageway road ...
... but then plunges into the 3 kilometre Gaziray Tunnel ...
... specially dug for the new lines.
This is the view from the "city" end!
The revamped "Gar" (main station) will serve Gaziray and the new High Speed line as shown in this view back towards Baspinar.
The line continues eastward to its terminus ...
... beyond which was just a scorched earth building site ...
... but hich is now the Gaziray tyayin depot.

Even though fbb  has struggled to cover the route using old Streetview pictures (and a lack of up-to-date illustrations from Gaziray itself), our loyal blog readers will be well aware that this has been a major financial and infrastructure project for an area where rail had steadily declined to almost nothing.

Add in the forthcomng High Speed line and Gaziantep looks like gaining some spectacular railway services.

The other feature, not immediately apparent from this blog, is how much of the Gaxiray suburban line runs through rather "tired" brown field sites. The railway is being used as a tool for regeneration, both economic and social.

Well done Turkey.
But there are trams as well!

More tomorrow! [Eyeballs permitting!!]
