Transdev Pink Transformational for Passengers (2)

And There's More! But First ...

Sometimes the amateur Christian teacher/preacher is called upon to do some strange things. Mary, whose funeral the fbb's led on Monday August 9th, wanted her ashes scattering in the sea at the foot of Seaton Chine.
Linda, from Canada but before that from Luton, who first met Mary when she (Linda) was aged five, elected to "scatter" the ashes of her life-long friend (mini video above) whilst fbb disposed of Mary's flat mate who died in 2002 and had been saved in-urn by Mary for this occasion. The beach slopes steeply so the process was hazardous ...
... bot fbb initially managed his part with a little dignity.
Sadly the climb back up the beach was impossible in a dignified manner.
Laughter ensued with the thought that Mary would also have laughed as well.

Despite the hazardous nature of the event, the fbbs (Mrs on camera) were honoured to help fulfil Mary's wishes and support Linda. The challenge remains, however. Is reducing a life of 89 years to a bag of dust, a little bigger than a kilo of sugar, now diluted to nothing in the sea off Seaton, really all there is to human existence?

The promise of a positive eternity with God (or a negative eternity without God) does seem worth considering.

Back To Less Thought-Provoking Team Pennine?
The rather inelegant name of Huddsquick (which sounds a bit like a late evening instant beverage) has been chosen as a brand for local services within First Huddersfield's territory.
The 360 (presumably tendered) is part of a complex group of routes via the Bradford Road to Brakenhill and Sheepbridge, mostly operated by First Bus. A version does appear on First's route map ...
But First no longer operates a 360. Team Pennine (Yorkshire Tiger as was) operate in a loop, passing ASDA ...
... then right turn to Brackenhill passing First's former turning circle ...
... returning via Bradley Boulevard.
To help the public, it would be better to show the bottom timetable panel above the top panel; they you could see at a glance that it was a loop. Outbound passengers can travel to Bradley Boulevard.

Google maps has already updated its display with the new brand name and colour!

On the opposite side of town we meet First Bus service 306 to Berry Brow.
This route clearly features on First's out-of-date route map.
The buses show Taylor Hill Circular ...
... as does the timetable.
So what, pray, is Huddsquick 319?

HuddsQuick 319 Huddersfield-Berry Brow

New-look buses will arrive on this route. Look out for our cheerful, pink buses in the new HuddsQuick colours – they’ll feature posh & comfy seats, free Wifi, USB power points and next-stop information on board.

Here is the timetable ...
... with different time point names and here is the Huddsquick route on the PTE map.
Is fbb befuddled or does it look very much like the route of First's 306? The Team Pennine 319 would appear to start on 5th September, although pictures exist of Yorkshire Tiger buses operating to Berry Brow also as 319.
319 does not get a mention on Google maps (see above)! Yorkshire Tiger still seems to have an on-line presence ...
... but with no 319.

It would appear, then, that under Arriva's negative management, Yorkshire Tiger withdrew from the 319. They new Transdev management has decided to get stuck in once again.

Whether competing with First on a Huddersfield town service is a good business decision will only become apparent in due course.

But it does show that Team Pennine means business!

More tomorrow.

  1. Both services 319 and 360 were commercially operated K-Line services (later Tiger Blue), First provided evening and Sunday tendered services on the 360. The 319 provided a cross-town link to the hospital but that bit was cut by YT.

    1. There was also, once upon a time, a third half-hourly service that made up a combined x10min service between 'town and the Infirmary. The 319 was half-hourly back when it was cross-town, it's now x15min between 'town and Berry Brow only.

I must also correct the spelling in the main post - the 360 serves Brackenhall (not Brakenhill), and Sheepridge (not Sheepbridge). The former is certainly rather changed from it's old reputation. Regeneration has been the order of the day.

It is nice seeing Transdev investing, and doing something other than managed decline...

  2. You not commenting on the interesting new Go South West Go Cornwall Bus services starting in Cornwall next month to give First - not running its complete schedules due to driver shortages according to your earlier Daytripper review blog - a run for its money on Truro-Falmouth or St Austell-Bodmin corridors with either faster or more frequent new services? First appears to be going into St Mawes on college days only with enhanced Truro College limited all day services!

  3. This seems to be Go South West up to their old tricks again. They pushed First out of Plymouth in 2015, now trying to do same in Cornwall. First SW is a different beast now though and will fight back I am sure!

    1. I suspect it will try but then again if it hasn't enough drivers to even run its Daytripper network then can it??
