It's Good At Bad Säckingen (3)

Buses in Bad Säckingen are run by Deutsche Bahn sporting a plain red livery.
Four figure route numbers are used with "73" being a regional prefix for the area. Timetables show every stop ...
... for example for hourly route 7334.

Now to that minibus.
But clicking on the "Unserer Citybus" link on the public utility company site we get something different, a link to the company "download centre" ...
... leading, eventually, to the information we are seeking.
There is a crude diagram ...
... showing three town routes, separately coloured but all bearing the number 7317.Sadly, there is no Streetview in Germany, so exploration of these routes is limited.

Route 1 (RED) is shown as a circular ...
... with occasional journeys to "Golfwelt". Here there is plenty on offer in addition to a simple round of 18 holes.
And you can enjoy some intriguing nosh!

Porky Shizzle Burger
Doppelt Fleisch!
100% Rinderhack & Pulled Pork aus unserem Smoker, mit Cheddar und 89ers-BBQ-Dip

dazu Kartoffel-Wedges

Fisch der Woche: Skrei und Gamba
auf Linguini mit Champignon-Lauch-Gemüse

Skrei: Der Winter-Kabeljau aus dem norwegischen Eismeer – eine ganz besondere Delikatesse!

Pasta Pesto
hausgemachtes Pesto aus Pinienkernen, Basilikum und Olivenöl

fbb loves the mixture of real German and other languages. "Skrei" is Norwegan for Cod!

Big bus 7334 also calls at the Golfwelt.

Route 2 (GREEN) seems to go to lots of Kliniks ...
... a hospital that looks like a really nice place to be ill in!

Route 3 (BLUE) is the west circular. fbb could not discern anything of particular interest on this route, but one building is the delightfully named ...
... Weihermattenschule.
The kiddies seem to be having a whole lotta fun.
The adult is Rektor (head?) Uri Schoo.

But back to the minibus service. No 3 son snapped samples of the publicity available in the town centre.
The bus stops, as usual, are distinctive and clear with the on-line route diagram as shown above accompanied by all the timetables.
There was also some general publicity for the Sudbadenbus network.
All this was located right outside the main shopping centre - very impressive!
Whilst observing, No 3 son was equally impressed with a vending machine offering, amazingly ...
... winegums; alternatively branded as ...
... extra fruchtig "English" wine gums; or maybe ...
... in more correct German!

As No 3 son has found for the last eighteen months, there are a huge range of delights in experiencing life in a different European country.

Brexit or not, there is much to titillate the little grey cells, be it electric minibuses or wine gums!

Adieu Excetera Etc.
News broke on Monday last of the demise of yet another bus operator. Back in September 2018, Buses Excetera lost a fair chunk of work tendered by Surrey County Council.
This left the company with two "normal" bus services and some commercial school stuff. The all-day services were the 28 Guildford to Woking ...
... and the 479, Guildford to Epsom.
The company ceased trading abruptly on Monday last. Outwardly the company appeared professional and successful with smart well kept vehicles ...
... and a professional-quality web site.
The site was fully active yesterday evening with no mention of the demise. The closure happened after Monday mornings school trips with consequent transport difficulties.

No further information has been released by the now-defunct company

  1. Buses Etcetera (BETC Ltd) rang a bell, and I was right; see https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/11450476.new-owner-of-bus-firm-avoids-jail-over-fake-cash/
    The owner resigned of course.
The accounts to 31 March 2018 showed a serious deterioration over previous year, and if they have continued, the current happenings are no surprise

  2. Buses Excetera. Their cessation is no surprise. Running routes mainly in Epsom from a base in Mersham (Redhill) is not efficient for one thing. There seems to have always been financial issues from the Countryliner (and Western Greyhound) initial group of individuals.

Surrey CC covered the school routes immediately. The 28 has been taken over by Falcon Buses from today. The oddity is the 479 which has a Sunday service from Stagecoach at Guildford (on contract), but no one has picked up the weekday service. Not too surprising given the affluent area, the train service and that the Leatherhead to Epsom section is largely covered by Metrobus 21 and Quality Line 408. It is not a route obviously in anyone's area.
