Monday Variety

Whoops Forgot (1)
fbb did hint that the additional facility on GoTimetable, allowing users to print out their own personal departure list (and similar for bus stop frames) would not work for the stop at Bradway shops. GoTimetable has not yet re-merged "joint" services as operators, with due respect for the Sheffield Bus Partnership, have, so far, operated totally independently!

So the best fbb could manage is the inaccurate TSY list ...
... and a hand cranked fbb version with no fancy formatting.
For the pedantic, times are shown from the previous time point (Lowedges) and fbb could not persuade his spreadsheet to add leading zeroes to the single figure times! But at least you can now find out when the buses run to Longford Road! Whoops again; note F should read First Bus 24.

Festina Lente!

fbb is grateful to correspondent Andrew for the pictures and infromation.

Whoops Forgot (2)
Although developments in the Great Carriage Shed project will await the great screw, glue and fudge together of the constituent parts, fbb did forget to post a picture of the completed back wall with windows painted and wall dirtied.
What is even dafter is that most of the above will be completely invisible to viewers! If you sink to your kneed and peer through the front wall windows, you might see part of the rear wall - but, at least, it has been frustrating fun to make.

Whoops Over Budget!
Northampton Alan gets his local BBC telly news from "Look Lost" (East?) based in Cambridge. Fridays programme focused on the Dutch-style roundabout.
The idea, of course, is that motorists are obliged to take things much more slowly that usual in order to give way to the slightly risky mix of pedestrians and cyclists using the red ring plus pedestrian crossings. Alan reports that, as the live TV interviews progressed, it was obvious behind the presenter that most drivers had not grasped this important principle - several hurried brake applications particularly as cars left the gyratory obstacle for the open road!

Then there's the cost overrun!

Cambridge Council has been accused of "recklessly pushing ahead" with the project as costs nearly treble.

The cost of the roundabout on Fendon Road, Cambridge - which gives priority to cyclists and pedestrians - has risen from an estimated £800,000 to £2.3m.

Council officials blamed the rise on "unexpected utility work" and Covid-19.

Edward Leigh, from Smarter Cambridge Transport, said the council pushed ahead before detailed survey work.

The new roundabout is being installed at the junction of Queen Edith's Way, one of the main access routes to Addenbrooke's Hospital.

Excavations began on the project in September, and work has yet to be completed, having been expected to finish by April.

Although the roundabout opened on Friday last, it isn't quite finished yet.

At least the numbers will be bigger for HS2!

Livery Family's Fine Finish
Remember that "different" variant of the new GoAhead East Yorkshire livery?
the "tease" was, "Wait until it is finished." Well it is.

The brand name is "East Rider".
This is for services between York and Hull.
The X46 is hourly with an evening and Sundays variant numbered X47. Unusually for modern bus operation it remains as an example of a long route (a tick under two hours) which used to be numbered as 746 ...
and 747 in the good old days.
The new buses have an outline of the route as part of their decoration ...
... and offer bike travel as well.

A Joyous View
Yesterday evening the fbb's enjoyed a sunset as observed from the back door of fbb mansions.
Praise God for the beauty of his creation.

And A Puzzle?
Where on the Underground might you find this; shiny blue and white tiles and ...
... and electronic departure screen?

Answer tomorrow when we go to ...

  1. East Yorkshire route number history is a little more complicated.

For a number of years, the core service was half hourly between York and Pocklington numbered 744 and 746. Every hour a 746 extended to Hull and every two hours a 744 extended to Bridlington. At some periods of history, the routes were connected with what is now Coastliner with some through journeys between Hull and Leeds.

To develop the Hull-York business, the hourly Hull-Pocklington section of 746 was pushed through to York as a faster service and renumbered X46. The 744 and 746 ran as before between York, Pocklington and Bridlington with some 746 trips extended to Market Weighton.

Thus the Pocklington - York section saw three buses an hour albeit on different routings and at an uneven service interval.

Using a Government grant to support rural services, the X47 varient was added evenings and Sundays.

Perhaps not surprisingly, three uneven buses between Pocklington and York was not sustainable and the frequency of the slower buses was gradually reduced to hourly, and various routing options tried. In one iteration, the services were renumbered: 744 to 45 & 746 to 46.

Service 747 as pictured in the blog still runs today and is a tendered "back road" village service between Pocklington and York. It has and had nothing in common with X47.
