Waterbeach 2

Busway One Day? Fun Day!

The above is the only picture we get! Could be anywhere?

A busway that will provide a city link for a planned development of 11,000 homes has been approved.

Cambridgeshire County Council agreed to progress the Waterbeach to Cambridge Transport Scheme at a meeting on Tuesday, moving it a step closer to construction.

The busway would link a new travel hub at Waterbeach with Milton Park and Ride before joining the existing guided busway between Cambridge and St Ives.

Critics said the buses would "hit the same traffic" as everyone else when they rejoined the road network in Cambridge, but supporters of the new scheme said it would help lower car use and reduce emissions.

The project will now be submitted for a Transport and Works Order, which is needed to build and maintain major transport infrastructure.

There are, however, some plans of the proposed route.

It is not the clearest of maps, but the BLUE line is the chosen route. Bottom left on the above map the Waterbeach busway joins the existing St Ives busway.

The two together ...
... will, indeed deliver buses to the traffic jams in the city centre ...
... before arriving at the station interchange.
There is, however, no indication on-line as to when this guided busway luxury may be delivered fit and ready for use.

Any guesses?

No Busway : Huge Fuss Way!

Meanwhile, what bus services are currently available for those unwilling or unable to take the train to Waterbeach?

Needless to say, there is no all-operators' map with Stagecoach offering only limited help with their current on-line map..

All that is offered is an
ORANGE Park and Ride No 2. But that route runs to ...
... Newmarket Road. The P & R via (?) Milton is a PURPLE P & R 5!

The buses used to be colour coded ...
... but now we have gone green ...
... and thus potentially confusing.

But what about Waterbeach P & R as per the Stagecoach map, above.
The service terminates at Landbeach! The last three evening journeys do extend to Waterbeach.

Another, older map does show a 2 at Waterbeach ...
... and it is ORANGE and does run via Milton P & R.

Confused.com?

But there us also a service 9 (BLUE) on offer. Another on-line list of "Cambridgeshire bus services" confirms a route 9 ...
So, are we getting there?

No, because Stagecoach no longer operates the 9.
It is operated by ...
... A2B bus and coach. However its timetable does not mention Waterbeach!
That is because it doesn't go via Waterbeach any more. The non route map in Traveline explains all - well it doesn't but you can guess.
It now sticks resolutely to the A10 or perhaps runs across ploughed fields; but does NOT soil it's injectors by visiting Waterbeach.

Things are not looking good for Waterbeach by bus. But a check with Traveline revealed the useless P & R 5 ...
... plus a service 100 which does not appear on any in-line area map. The 100 is run by Central Connect ...
... extending from Waterbeach to the Research Park.
It runs every 30 minutes ...
... and the company provides a proper PDF map.
Usefully the 100 links Waterbeach with its threatened station.

The w7hole bus information set-up is just a mess.!

Having waded through the mire of on-line (mis)information, an exhausted fbb us left wondering how the bus hub at the new Waterbeach station ...
... will be served both before the busway opens and then what will happen when buses are zipping along the guide rails.

Tailpiece
How would you describe this picture?
fbb's thoughts tomorrow.
