Friday Fill-In

That's The Way To Do It!

Author and occasional correspondent Keith Shayshutt has gladdened the heart of fbb by forwarding the above two documents. Lynx absorbed many of the services run by Norfolk Green and its short run successor Stagecoach. Lynx has always been good with printed publicity and these two fold out leaflet-style timetables are no exception.

There is a network map ...
... which has been well designed to show odd school and college day journeys as just that - oddities ...
... as with the dashed line on route 48.

One leaflet covers the routes to the east of Kings Lynn, including the combined 15 minute frequency between Lynn and Hunstanton with the hourly coastal service continuing beyond.

Also included is the 48 and 49 as shown in the map above.

The second of the duet of leaflets covers the rest to the south and west. On both leaflets there is an additional town service map - very clear and helpful.
On the second leaflet there is a  very useful list of all journeys to the Hospital ...
... and there's plenty of them. Most routes are not outstandingly frequent, but there are only so many roads out of the town so combined routes offer a good service along most of the main roads. The 45, however, is every 20 minutes!
Keith's covering note explains ...

All leaflets available on bus and on line of route in pubs etc. - just how it should be!

Well done Lynx, and BADLY DONE all those companies who play the "It's all on line" record incessantly, tediously and stupidly.

Last Sunday's Quiz Answers.
Southampton - the clock tower is the big clue.

The City branch of London's Underground Northern Line is closed to facilitate the rebuild of the Bank station platforms.

They are known as "Gabion" cages. The word comes fron an Italian word for "big cage" - so they are big cage cages. Wire cages are filled with rock and built like a huge wall to stabilise and protect cuttings and embankments.

It appears in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban. And you can buy one as a die cast model.

Peter Hebblethwaite, boss of P & O and dubbed "the most hated man in Britain".

St Andrew Square (NOT St Andrews!) Edinburgh.

The extremity of MetroLand. The poster asked you to apply to the Metropolitan Railway for full details of your dream home. fbb does not think that houses in the style illustrated were actually available at Amersham.

The loco was unofficially named "Hush Hush". It was powered by a marine high pressure boiler and was a technical failure. It was eventually rebuilt as a conventional 4-6-4. Hornby sell models of both versions.

The tunnel runs from South Kensington underground station along Exhibition Road with exits to the various museums. It once continued all the way to the Albert Hall.

Anybody claim to have answered all 15 WITHOUT RECOURSE TO THE INTERNET?

Possibly the most powerful and most compelling of the Resurrections appearances documented in the Bible ...
... recording Thomas who refused to believe that his  chums had seen the risen Jesus. He demanded personal proof!

Yet again, the easy way out is to say "it was impossible so it never happened!". But if that is true, how come the authorities of the day failed to expose the greatest lie of History? Whilst some early writers sometimes use the phrase "claimed Jesus risen", no contemporaneous author EVER suggested an alternative explanation.

There is a strong tradition that Thomas went on to found the first Christian church in India - the Mar Thoma denomination which still exists and bears his name.
And, there again, would you stake your life on an obvious deceit?
