... Sometimes Sort Of Strange (mini blog)
Public transport can be so confusing! The above headline popped on to fbb's "devices" a few days ago.
And fbb was baffled! But he read on ...A quick look at on-line pictures doesn't help too much. There was this bus ...... but the fares are in dollars and ...... the registration plate is VERY non standard! This one is no better. It is also Stagecoach but with another non UK registration plate. The blind shows "Airport for Downtown".
Does the Stagecoach East Scotland web site help? YES there is a 747 from Halbeath P&R to Edinburgh Airport. And it is on the Stagecoach network map.Elsewhere on the Stagecoach web site, the Company answers its own question ...
... optimistically suggesting the Halbeath P&R is "Fife" generally. Most passengers will either park there or change from other buses.
But the text in the above note mentions Guardbridge, Cupar, Auctetmuchty and Kinross which are deinitely NOT between Halbeath P&R and the aforementioned airport.
But click on your search result and, tada ...... you get two timetables for the price of one; a 20 minute service from P&R with hourly trips starting back from Dunfermline. You may know that Halbeath P&R IS Dunfermine, so the hourly service runs into the town rather than terminating at P&R.But there is no mention of Cupar, Aughtermuchty and Kinross anywhere on the Stagecoach site - and surely a bus service would not start st Cupar? At least these nw buses would begin their airpot run from St Andrews, surely?
So what is the journalist trying to tell us via the original clip shown at the head of this post? One thing its author is telling us is that he/she doesn't know anything much about buses or the geography of Fife!
A quick check on the Stagecoach East Scotland web site reveals the new service from, as surmised, St Andrews to Edinburgh Airport via Cupar etc via Halbeath Park and Ride.So that's what the article was really about! The new service will run hourly via Cupar etc. and on to the Airport.Just to add to fbb's perplexity, he just about remembers a 747 to Aberdeen Airport (Dyce) which no longer runs.Meanwhile McGills have started their new service ...... from Aberdeen to Edinburgh Airport.
Public Transport is so easy to understand in the UK!
========================
Two men, trudging wearily and dejectedly from Jerusalem to nearby Emmaus. Their hope for the future, Jesus, is dead, crucified by an illegal court and laid to rest in a borrowed grave. To cap it all, there are now rumours of strange goings on at the tomb. They were fed up.A stranger came alongside and asked to join them,
They stood still, with sad faces. One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only visitor in Jerusalem who doesn't know the things that have been happening there these last few days?”
“What things?” he asked.
“The things that happened to Jesus of Nazareth,” they answered.
The stranger seemed to know more and explained that this "Messiah" was destined to die to "save the people".
The stranger was invited into their home for refreshment, and asked to "say grace", to bless the bread. When he broke it ...... they knew who it was. There was a huge sense of good, of power, of holiness from Jesus' breaking of bread.
So it was back to Jerusalem to tell the rest if the disciples!
No anticipation; no flashes of lightning; no angel choirs; just a simple companion on the road; and a shared meal.
For millions of people that is just how the risen Jesus is today, although now "spiritually" present rather than physically. But still as powerful.
