... Of The Bus Business?
First Bus has, so its PR machine has announced, reached a milestone. On checking his vast library of research material, fbb discovers that the phrase is both official and has an official meaning.
reach a milestone
To achieve or experience a moment, situation, or event that is exceptionally impressive, significant, or consequential.
Folks, we've reached a huge milestone—one million visitors to the site!
I can't believe you're already graduating from college. Congratulations on reaching such an important milestone in your life!
It does seen a strange phrase to use to describe the activity of a large national Public Transport Group. To fbb it implies a small success; the achievement of a minor aim as part, perhaps, of a bigger project.
Gavin, aged 1, hit his first milestone today by walking from the sofa to the door.
Or, maybe ...
... without having a rest on the way, something of a milestone in his eightieth year.
But fbb is wrong. This First Bus type of milestone is a big achievement. Anway, First's milestone is a major milestone!Simon Pearson (above) writes about First's Transformation Journey.
But before looking at this transformation, it may be appropriate to take a quick summary of Mr Pearson's career with First and his earlier employment elsewhere.

First Bus announces major milestone
on business transformation journey
Simon Pearson
Chief Commercial Officer, First Bus
17 Dec 2024
As usual, fbb has distilled the "essence of Simons article and adds the odd comment.
As the bus industry undergoes a once in a generational change, so does First Bus. The relaunch is far from simply a new 'lick of paint' – it's the culmination of years of business transformation, reflecting a major shift in its priorities to focus more on its customers and colleagues.
Shouldn't any business focus on its staff and its customers?
The 'Moving the everyday' campaign is a bold reference to the integral role the bus plays in unlocking environmental, social, economic and health benefits by moving communities and connecting people.
Your meaning, in practical terms, is what?
It celebrates everyday heroes from right across the communities First Bus serves - buses don't just move a nation, they bring a nation together, every day.
How does celebrating Everyday Heroes help the business?
First Bus has become a leader in decarbonisation, investing £250m in transitioning toward a zero-emission bus fleet by 2035. It's building an inclusive and engaged workforce in a business that is an accredited real Living Wage employer and is digitally transforming the travel experience for customers.
Clearly this will all have a major impact on Elsie Miggins journeys from Woodhouse into Sheffield.
This latest phase sees First Bus focus even more intently on improving the basics of customer service and setting targets including improving punctuality; minimising cancellations; improving vehicle cleanliness ...
Shouldn't any bus company be doing that all the time; not as a transformational policy?
... maintaining colleague and customer safety; and providing accurate and timely information to customers.
Same again!
And hasn't First Bus claimed such innovative (?) policies on previous occasions?
This is all underpinned by a new and improved development programme to help their team members put customer experience first, which is crucial as they continue to invest in improving service delivery.
This brand relaunch is the culmination of years of planning and hard work from their teams, taking on feedback from customers and people, and the company is proud to announce this new chapter for First Bus.
So as part of this transformation, all the well designed and targeted local promotion with dedicated local liveries ...
... is to the scrapped in favour of some meaningless countrywide scheme? The buses are just waiting eagerly for that new logo!
Truly transformational.
At the heart of the brand's transformation launch campaign is a beautifully uplifting and sincere 60-second manifesto video – society's ode to the magical, humorous and sometimes annoying moments that can only be found on the bus – featuring musician and actor, Jordan Stephens.
No, neither has fbb!
Haven't found that video yet - still looking.
Alongside the manifesto video, First Bus partnered with TV personality Josie Gibson for this campaign to help promote the vital work buses do in connecting people to their local communities, as she shared her own story about what a key role the bus played in her life and career too in Bristol.
That's the one we have seen above.
Josie also shared the stories of resilience, dedication and community spirit of a few everyday heroes up and down the country, representing the everyday of the many, showing how the bus brings people together.
New livery, inspiring video, TV personality, focussing on the passenger ...
The campaign aims to inspire people to make the switch from cars to buses, connecting people, reducing congestion, improving air quality, and contributing to the wider goal of reaching net zero.
Really?
It wouldn't be to persuade more people to use the buses and thus up the profits for shareholders, would it?
You would think that was Simon Pearson's aim!
Nuff said - for today, anyway.
But a final treat - fbb has now found that "Manifesto" video.
Marvel, and enjoy!Hmmm?

One Day To Go After This ...
But the cruel and unjust crucifixion was not the end. Even the prophet Isaiah hinted at that, although it was possible he simply did not fully understand what his mind, his conscience and his Godly inspiration was telling him to say.
The Lord said:-
It was my will that he should suffer;
his death was a sacrifice to bring forgiveness.
And so he will see his descendants;
he will live a long life,
and through him my purpose will succeed.
After a life of suffering, he will again have joy;
he will know that he did not suffer in vain.
My devoted servant, with whom I am pleased,
will bear the punishment of many
and for his sake I will forgive them.
And so I will give him a place of honor,
a place among the great and powerful.
He willingly gave his life
and shared the fate of evil men.
He took the place of many sinners
and prayed that they might be forgiven.
