LA Mini at Burbank

Beautiful Downtown Burbank

This "city" on the n northern edge of Los Angeles came to fame as a tag in the introduction of the cult comedy show Ron and Martins' Laugh-in, broadcast between 1968 and 1973. It was a sort of Goon Show on TV; but without the qualitty.

One participant was Judy Carne ...
... daughter of Harry Botterill, greengrocer of Kingsthorpe Northampton, fbb's former home town. fbb's dad supplied Harry with fruit and veg from the wholesale business that pater managed.

Judy Carne died in 2015 after a rather sad old age.
Here is a local map showing Burbank "city".
Technically, the Universal Studios and Theme Park, visited by No 3 son on business, is in Burbank. (very bottom tip of the blue shaded bit above).

Readers may remember the huge and largely unused bus station opposite the Universal mega site.
The south western flank of the sausage was largely unused apart from one solitary pole and flag.
The flag enlarged ...
... showed that the stand was promoting a service by Burbank Bus.
Google Maps also revealed a good frequency ...
... of a bus every 15 minutes. But where to?

There is a map on--line.
To save our readers' efforts at investigating Burbank Bus, fbb can tell you that the Pink Route runs to Downtown Burbank Metrolink station.

Metrolink is the local suburban rail network of LA.

There are a couple of bus pictures also on-line.
Wikipedia reveals that this operation is run for the Burbank city authority by a private company ...
... originally started in LA but doing what UK would call tendered work now over a wide geographical area. Again the sainted Wikipedia will explain all.

fbb wondered about the size of the Burbank Bus route network.

Answer 2.

Its other route is the Orange Route, which operates from our old friend Noho! (North Hollywood, remember!)
fbb has split the timetable into two sections to show the out-and-back more easily on the blog page.
Add the panel below to the right of the above and you get the complete display.
The list of vehicles on Wikipedia gives some idea of the extent of the fleet.
But fbb thinks the "Axess" buses are not used on the two normal services.

Paratransit
Burbank Bus Senior and Disabled paratransit provides curb-to-curb transportation services for seniors and persons with disabilities living in Burbank, allowing them to maintain healthy and active lifestyles. To be eligible for the service, City of Burbank residents must be 60 years of age or older or qualify by nature of a disability.
The above is an example - not necessarily a Burbank Bus vehicle; but it does look like the lower blue vehicle as illustrated above.

Tomorrow we go to South Harrow - a k a Sarf Arrer.

  1. The Wikipedia article helpfully gives dates new for the buses listed above. As the Blue Birds date from 2006 and the NABIs from 2009, it *is* the ENC Axcesses, new in 2017 and 2024, that are currently the mainstay of the Burbank Bus two-route network (which has just awarded drivers a 17% increase, at a 10% contract uplift to the city authorities).

  2. The first of your photos under "There are a couple of bus pictures also on-line." is one of the Blue Bird Ultra LF CNG batch (4679 to be precise). The second photo shows fleet number 5112 from the first batch of the ENC Axess BRT 35' model. "LF" in the designations of the earlier vehicles would mean "low floor", so it would seem that all of the buses listed serve the same purpose.

    This page:-

includes an image which shows that the "senior and disabled transit" vehicles are of a different, normal control, type.
