Partnership P.S.
Following on the Night Bus notification by the Glasgow bus non-partnership as explained fully in yesterday's blog, fbb has found a map of the current (2017???) routes on First's web site. We can contrast and compare with McGills highly simplified diagram. It appears that six routes have become five. Enquiring minds might wonder why First's N9 has become McGills N38. It is because McGills trunk route between Glasgow, Paisley and beyond is No 38!Remember, electric buses? And there's Ralph Roberts, on the leaflet cover with his hair dyed, enjoying a publicity stunt. We are told that First will be running four night routes. The current map shows five remaining, outside McGills "area",
So something will get the chop.
For the record this was what First's web sit said about forthcoming changes at 1215 yesterday.
Forthcoming Service changes
From 20th August, services 2 and 3 will see an increase in frequency, which will improve services for over 600,000 people per month in the city.
The move will see service 2 - which runs from Faifley, through the city centre to Baillieston - increase in frequency to every ten minutes. Meanwhile, service 3 - which runs from Drumchapel, through the city centre to Govan - will increase in frequency to every 12 minutes.
Both routes have seen significant growth in passenger number recovery following the pandemic and First Glasgow has utilised this data to help allocate its resource to meet this demand.
What night bus changes?
The fbb Summer Quiz Part 3 : London
All these locations are in the London Transport area. We start at No 21 with its distinctive roof, then travel clockwise round London's "National Rail" termini.

Picture 22 is Bristol Temple Meads, as used a couple of days ago...
ReplyDeleteThought so! You got there before me. This might be better: https://tinyurl.com/4b4rr5fj
DeleteAndrew, you seem to be agreeing with "Anonymous" who says that photo 22 is of Bristol TM, but your link is to a photo of Marylebone. I certainly thought that there had been a plan to convert Marylebone to a car park; and I am aware that there is an old portion of Bristol TM that is no longer used for trains.
DeleteActually, FBB does say that they are London termini, so I think 21 must be Paddington, 22 = Marylebone, 23 = Euston, 24 = St. Pancras, 25 = Kings Cross .... 33= Waterloo, 34 = Victoria, 35 = Kensington Olympia (certainly not a terminus, as Andrew says in his second comment - that was the whole point of using it for IC services.)

Perhaps I wasn't clear - yes, the link I posted was indeed Marylebone. I don't know if you used the GC line from High Wycombe in the late 70s/early 80s but it was incredibly run down and dilapidated. There was a plan to close the line and convert the tunnels into a high-speed coachway. However the scheme (fortunately) foundered because the tunnels weren't wide enough for this to function safely. It was rejuvenated under Chris Green's management (and a house-building boom in Buckinghamshire) and, of course, ended up as Chiltern Railways.
DeleteI'd question whether the station shown in the final picture was ever an Intercity terminus (for passenger trains), although those passing through certainly stopped there.
ReplyDeleteMotorail services started there and carried passengers. Does that count?
