Or Hunting Holiday Haunts at Hunmanby
The A165 is the main road between Scarborough (see map above) and Bridlington on the delightful, but often chilly, North Yorkshire Coast. Part way along the A165 is Filey, very much the posher of the string of resorts. The drive south from Filey is pleasant, but uneventful, passing through agreeable but unspectacular farming land. The big excitement is heralded by these signs ...... preparing you for a crossing on the level; this is the Hull to Scarborogh railway line.Filey station is to the left whilst little Hunmanby is to the right.
Next up, as they say, is Primrose Valley "Holiday Park" which, in less pretentious days, would have been called a caravan site. The first clue is this sign ...... followed by a sales pitch! Then comes the A165 entrance to Primrose Valley ...... and passing the possibly pretentious propyleaum ...
... you enter a world of bright blue signs ...... and twisting access roads Here you will find literally hundreds of caravans, some nestling beside a tranquil lake ...... others lie in the distance near the beach. There are also brick built holiday premises available for rent of timeshare in an adjacent development.
In the past you might have met buses labelled "Primrose Valley" ...... providing a varied collection of almost historic vehicles!Double decks could also be enjoyed.Nowadays quality is much improved with services provided by East Yorkshire. Despite GoAhead's usual maps of high quality elsewhere, East Yorkshire's offer is poor, with this sort of thing ...... showing little blocky buses bumbling around, often confusingly when the graphics require tight corners. Here is the Primrose Valley caravan site area ..... which shows route 13 (of course not marked as such!) hooking around the northern edges of the complex and turning in its dinky little nibble almost on the beach. The 13 is marketed as part of the Scarborough to Bridlington "Coaster" routes with service 12s calling at the A165 entrance illustrated above. There is no PDF timetable for this group of services which makes any extract too big (or, reduced, too small) for this blog. So an extract from the Traveline's route 13 table ...... shows a bus every hour via the cliff top turn round. The Coaster group of services is reduced for the winter season.
But this blog's interest is with the work of this man ...... this sort of activity ...... this spooky place ...... and what happened behind the trees on the inland side of the A165; yes, there on the right.Mysterious, eh?
