21st Century Journalism?
Interesting rolling stock.
Well not like that anyway. Tube trains have never run to Aylesbury. Metropolitan Railway trains did once; but steam hauled and proper "big" trains.
New Red Funnel Car Ferry? Here is the real Red Eagle.Looks just a teesny weensy bit different, doesn't it?
They were used from 1949, but were downgraded from the early 1950s and all converted to conventional buffet card by 1959.
So not quite up-to-date news gathering, then?
New Route - Twaddle!Regular readers may well remember Sarfend's new open top bus route, numbered 99 and operated by "Ice Cream" branded open toppers. It ran EAST from the famous pier to Shoeburyness ...... half hourly at busy times and hourly away from the school holidays.
... and was numbered 68. You might have been lucky enough to get this as your ride ...... or maybe something a bit less snazzy! So where is this new route going, then?
Nowhere - there isn't one!
What is happening this season is that the 68 and 99 are joined together going a mega long open top route from Leigh on Sea (west) ...... via the Pier and on to Shoeburyness (east).
Ensign is now owned by First Bus.
Great Modelling Minds ...
... Often Think Alike!
fbb is always impressed by the skills of modellers as presented in the various magazines. He resigns himself to the fact that he will never be skilled or committed enough to produce such marvels. Bill Bodge and Fred Fudge, his modelling mentors, accept a lesser standard from he ham-fisted old bloke.
This small OO gauge layout (more a working diorama) takes the industrial railway as its muse.It includes all the detritus of a works yard and the giveaway to its model status is the people hard at non-work there. It is very difficult to model "real" people in 4mm scale.
The site has an engine shed ...... which looks equally realistic. That weatherboarding is beautifully and accurately modelled - it must have taken the layout's owner many hours.
It's not always the model that is magnificent, but the way in which it is moulded into the surroundings. Skilled modellers are good at that.
fbb just muddles through.
Not The Eiffel Tower in Matchsticks ...
Puzzle Picture 1
... which didn't win the prize because its creator had used the wrong type of matchstick! Disgraceful?
But The Forth Bridge in Lego!
Impressive, eh? Here's a bit of video.Puzzle Picture 1
What model is this?As a sott of clue; fbb is using two of these to repair a model that used FIVE of them in its construction about nine years ago. The model kit illustrated was first offered to market in about 1961 and then cost three shillings!
Answers tomorrow.

Sometimes very small and apparently insignificant incidents in the last few days of Jesus' life contain some deeper meanings. Most of us have heard of "The Widow's Mite". It probably should be known as "The Widow's TWO Mites".
As Jesus sat near the Temple treasury, he watched the people as they dropped in their money. Many rich men dropped in a lot of money; then a poor widow came along and dropped in two little copper coins, worth about a penny.
He called his disciples together and said to them, “I tell you that this poor widow put more in the offering box than all the others. For the others put in what they had to spare of their riches; but she, poor as she is, put in all she had - she gave all she had to live on.”
Those who dropped in a lot of money were the same people who were seeking to kill Jesus. They were the ones for whom religious show was more important than genuine faith, those for whom a casual gift of small change was easier than a real commitment.
The widow gave all she had.
But the images doesn't end there. In a few days Jesus would give all he had - his life.
