Saturday Variety

Colchester - A P.S.

Colchester Corporation began by running trams, as seen above near the Town Hall on High Street; compare the view with today!
Many of the later bus routes can be linked with destinations on the new network starting tomorrow.
Shrub End Estate is still a terminus ...
... whilst Severalls ...
... is now part of the Highwoods routes.
Beacon Estate ...
... is on the way to the modern destination of Stanway.
fbb cannot work out which of the new routes might serve St Andrews Avenue ...
... as a terminus, as the actual road is not served by a local bus route.
The privatised Corporation Transport company sold out in 1993.

Alan's Nostalgic Bus Ride
YBD 201 was one of four ECW bodied Bristol MW6G coaches received by United Counties in 1961. (Fleet numbers 200 -203), It did not stay long, moving to Eastern National in 1963.
From Chelmsford it moved  on to, amongst other places, Nailsea, Belfast ...
...  and Orkney.

Early in 2022 it returned from the Far North to Northampton. On Sunday 9th April it operated a short afternoon tour to Milton Malsor, Rothersthorpe, Kislingbury and Harpole.

But why did it make photo stops at the two places shown?

The first is easy-peasy; note the tower of Northampton's Town Hall peeping in to the right of the picture.
It is where Derngate Bus Station used to be, of fond memory.
Becket’s View is across the road from the north east entrance to the university campus on what was once known as Ho-ho-houghton Road.
Way back when, it was the site of United Counties Northampton depot.

The Bristol SU group has produced a complete timeline.

Stenning Wedges Continue
The Bus Beautifier from the Bush has been beautifying buses for Cardiff.
At the moment, the man seems to be keen on wedges of colour running down from the roof.
See also a wider yellow wedge on this one!
Cardiff's 61 runs to Pentrebane ...
... every 12 minutes Monday to Friday ...
... but only every 20 on Saturdays.
And there's one at the terminus long before Stenning got designing.

Deltic Delight
The fleet of 22 Deltics (Class 55) were the powerhorse of the East Coast main line. fbb well remembers taking a group of train enthusiasts to watch then fly by. It was truly magnificent. The throaty power of the V12 engine was both magnificent and, in a way, terrifying.
These powerful beasts are now popular performers on heritage lines and they always attract the crowds.

It was Hornby Dublo that produced a model. In the catalogue it was only a drawing, and rather garish at that.
In reality its colours were more akin to the prototype.
fbb's perception is that Dublo's effort was too short and stood too high on its bogies.

Next came the Kitmaster plastic kit of the original testbed loco ...
... but you had to be a very good kit basher to make yours look as good as this:-
Next, along came Lima ...
... followed by Bachmann.
The Kitmaster model is still available, now produced by Dapol; but for any of the rest you will need to buy second hand.

Until now, that is.

Enter the latest Deltic produced by recent arrival in the business of OO models, Accurascale. It is their first model locomotive.
Another area that we wanted to get right with our model was digital sound. Deltics chuck out some amazing thrash, and we have decided to push the boundaries of DCC sound in 4mm to ensure our model replicates this in miniature. So, in association with ESU and the DPS, we conducted a whole new sound recording for the release, utilising 55019 ‘Royal Highland Fusilier’ on the Spa Valley Railway in August 2018 to ensure the best replication of the distinctive Deltic drone in 4mm scale. We have been working closely with ESU to incorporate the best speakers which will replicate the sound and we are designing our chassis to optimise the sound installation. With our tungsten alloy chassis, we can maintain the heft to provide excellent traction while also making space for our speaker system.

Available for a modest (?) £180 if you shop around.

The day when nothing happened; well, nothing at a human level.

As Jesus had predicted as the guards approached to arrest him ...

The time is coming, and is already here, when all of you will be scattered, each of you to your own home, and I will be left all alone. But I am not really alone, because the Father is with me.

... all his discipled fled for fear of their lives.

The Sabbth started at sunset om Friday, so the body was rushed into a tomb owned by another Joseph (known as "of Arimathea"), a secret follower, and a member of the Sanhedrin, the group that had, effectively, crucified Jesus.
But there was no time on the Friday to complete the burial by anointing the body with oils and spices.

There was a completely unfounded rumour that some of the disciples might try to steal the body. So the tomb was sealed ...
... and guarded.
It is likely that these were temple guards, not Roman soldiers - the Romans would not have been interested.

So on the Sabbath (Saturday) nothing happened.

Sunday began at sunset on Saturday and ...

Sometime during the night ...
