Yes We Can Go To Cannes (1)
Nice, as you can see from the above, is down at the bottom right hand corner of the hexagon which is France. It is almost in Italy! A quick nip to the south west thereof is Cannes ....
... Nice top right; Cannes bottom left. Just over a week ago No 3 son set off by aeroplane for Nice and the onward jaunt to Cannes. Son works as Chief Technical Officer for a firm which does clever things with video on-line.
These days, film companies (e,g. Paramount) make their sales catalogue available to potential customers on-line; but getting a high quality trailer for a film through the ether and down the wire is tricky stuff.
In simple terms you have to chop it into chunks, send the chunks off into space and the join the bits together on the customer's device
Anyway, being his father's son, "the lad" took the bus from Nice Airport to Cannes rather than resorting to the more expensive taxi. Taxi to Cannes is at a fixed rate ...... of approx £71 : plus, of course a "service charge" ...... of approx £3.50. There are Uber and similar services which are a bit cheaper, but not much.
Four of the "team" travelled on a group ticket on the bus which worked out at 12 Euros or £10 each in real money.
Nice Airport is some distance from the centre of the "Capital" of the Cote d'Azur and built out onto reclaimed land in The Med.Terminal 2 is the newer of the two and looks very much like a flying saucer that has landed right near the sea.fbb is almost convinced that the bus to Cannes leaves from the bottom deck. That is because he cannot find the stand on Streetview as the lower deck has not been visited by the little car with a camera on the roof. Fortunately our globe trotting executive has sent some pictures of the start of his bus journey. There is a large poster (below) which extols the ongoing improvement to the airport facilities and, oddly ...... is postered only in English!
Longer distance buses in the area, including those to Cannes, are operated by ZOU (in white and blou!).The 81 to Cannes is powered by electricity ...... and is but a small part of an extensive network.
Before we look at ZOU publicity, we should remember that local Nice people have the privilege of two tram routes at the airport. Both T2 and T3 serve Terminal 1 ...... and Terminal 2 ...... also at the lower level.
"Maybe come back by train," said the Chief Technical Officer. "I have heard that you can walk from Nice St Augustin station to the airport."
Followed by the envoi ...
"Look into it, dad!"
Your wish, son, was fbb's dubious privilege to obey.
