It seems that, yet again, I am required to fit in with what the technology delivers rather than the technology delivering what is useful.fatbusblokehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06833340546527596517noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-7276019198236297702012-07-30T11:57:27.025+01:002012-07-30T11:57:27.025+01:00"Erm, why can't you just credit his Oyste..."Erm, why can't you just credit his Oyster account?"

Because the card stores the value. Oyster gates and buses are not online all the time, so the value has to be placed on the card itself.

This is the only way that with early-2000s technology (as it is) it can all be fast enough.

As for using Oyster in the way you did, this isn't strictly valid. It is not designed for outboundary journeys. Technically, doing that inbound and not stopping to touch in would mean a Penalty Fare being due.

For outboundary journeys, a paper Travelcard should be used as you did.

NeilNeilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11739094192244593533noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-31131497407718645982012-07-30T10:07:46.691+01:002012-07-30T10:07:46.691+01:00You paid too much, fbb. And senior discounts can be gained on oystercards too, if you register your railcard against your oyster.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
