We shall see.fatbusblokehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06833340546527596517noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-21442194061584758712012-02-12T11:56:55.650+00:002012-02-12T11:56:55.650+00:00The bizarre thing is that TSY know full well that ...The bizarre thing is that TSY know full well that Windmill Drive is in Grimethorpe, as the TSY timetable for the 37 correctly shows the route description as 'Barnsley - Lundwood - Cudworth - Shafton - Grimethorpe'.

Similarly, if you look at the Traveline timetable for the 37, all the stops on the loop working are correctly prefixed 'Grimethorpe' - with no mention of Brierley at all (apart from the road name). But somehow, Traveline’s route description has been set to 'Barnsley - Brierley (Circle)' and this error seems to have transmitted itself to the screens at Barnsley Bus Station.

What is more, the Traveline Route descriptions (which must be supplied by TSY) are clearly NOT based on the localities of the termini. Otherwise, the 120 would be 'Halfway Tram Stop - Lodge Moor' rather than ‘Halfway – Fulwood’ and the 252 would be 'Sheffield - Drakehouse' rather than ‘Sheffield – Eckington – Crystal Peaks’. So my only conclusion is that there must be some manual intervention somewhere.

It would appear from previous blogs that TSY staff are among your avid followers, so hopefully someone will pick up this point and do what is necessary to correct the description of the 37 - and hopefully Barnsley Bus Station’s screens at the same time !NMcBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05494964262745285249noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-56153974540272970502012-02-11T19:11:10.097+00:002012-02-11T19:11:10.097+00:00NMcB have a chocolate coated peanut for Great Bill...NMcB have a chocolate coated peanut for Great Billing!

But TSY's problem is more subtle than you suggest. Because (we are told) Traveline needs a "locality", TSY generates one geographically, so by some standard of something, Windmill Drive IS in Brierley TSY-style.

Their data is littered with such stuff. See Tuesday 14th's blog for "a cracker"!fatbusblokehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06833340546527596517noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-84774650924934315692012-02-11T18:13:07.743+00:002012-02-11T18:13:07.743+00:00Presumably the reason for TSY believing that the 3...Presumably the reason for TSY believing that the 37 terminates at Brierley is to do with the furthest stop on the route. This is named ‘Grimethorpe, Windmill Avenue/Brierley Road’, which although clearly in Grimethorpe, does at least contain the word ‘Brierley’. However, this is really no excuse - as on the same basis you might just as well describe the 37 as ‘Barnsley – Windmill’.

I’m not sure if comments on previous blogs get picked up, but going back to January 12th (http://publictransportexperience.blogspot.com/2012/01/naptan-necessitous-national-naming-4.html ), I have had some e-mail correspondence with Traveline East Midlands regarding the definition of ‘Great Billing’. As a result, the Traveline/Transport Direct definition has been moved from the Wellingborough Road/Penfold Lane junction to a point off High Street about half way between the old Primary School and the Methodist Church. So now, if you request a journey from Little Billing to Great Billing, both Traveline and TD will unload you at the stop at 11 Fishponds Road rather than at Ecton Brook, Ham Meadow Drive as previously. Hopefully this will avoid Mrs Miggins wandering forlornly around Ecton Brook in future while trying to find her way to the Elwes Arms for a half of bitter shandy !NMcBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05494964262745285249noreply@blogger.com
