Admittedly neither come without cost but would be options.Ianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14179060513290116094noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-66420507456542594112016-02-21T20:03:31.642+00:002016-02-21T20:03:31.642+00:00If the Falcon time-keeping struggles in the winter...If the Falcon time-keeping struggles in the winter, what on earth will it be like in the summer season with the M5 clog ups? The A38 is also another hot spot for daily delays. It's a nice idea, but I'm not optimistic unless there are changes. It's not dissimilar to the 1970s Green Line coach network, especially express route 727 (Crawley to Luton Airport via Gatwick and Heathrow). In the end heavy traffic killed all the cross-London routes, and those operated from depots at each end of the routes.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-3972715927511181082016-02-21T09:53:47.906+00:002016-02-21T09:53:47.906+00:00The Island Line is possibly the only part of the r...The Island Line is possibly the only part of the railway network where costs can be identified very accurately.
If it really is costing £3m in subsidy, that should buy around 20 buses running all day every day - which would probably be a greater contribution to the island economy than a tram on a single corridor.
Elsewhere there's been a suggestion that Midland Metro's discarded and increasingly unreliable Italian-built trams are being eyed up. I doubt though that catenary could ever be installed in Ryde Tunnel - even at original levels, it could not take mark 1 suburban stock and standard class tanks, as was briefly envisaged. And of course, tamper with such an elderly structure only if you have an unlimited budget.Man of Kentnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-47080990496050069652016-02-21T09:46:30.805+00:002016-02-21T09:46:30.805+00:00Maybe the Island should build one of these!

BUT, just as on our tightly scheduled railways, if there is an "incident" there ought to be workable provision for some back-up, replacement vehicle or driver. The problem with Falcon is that the back-up (if any) is at Plymouth and most of the incidents, delays etc are at Bristol, three hours away.

A Falcon mini-depot in Bristol would be one option, but expensive. On the other hand, if the service gains an early reputation for unreliability it may be doomed from the outset.fatbusblokehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06833340546527596517noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-3945078457369793842016-02-21T09:02:10.826+00:002016-02-21T09:02:10.826+00:00But how do you plan for incidents like that, or a ...But how do you plan for incidents like that, or a suicidal man on a construction site (Friday's issue) or accidents on the route in and out of Bristol (Thursday night's other little issue). With now 2 glass replacements and another failure on Haldon Hill, it seems the Falcon has had a baptism of fire this week. Both journeys I was on yesterday ran to time by the way, although the return was made on one of Plymouth depot's Megabus vehicles due to at least one Falcon not being available.
Ianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14179060513290116094noreply@blogger.com
