As a web developer I see that fact every day.

Unfortunately the likes of Stagecoach and First are way behind the times with quite frankly aweful sites. First have made a partial effort but it's still not great. Compare that to Go Ahead who have embraced cross platform design (eg see Oxford Bus) and have done a good job all things considered.

You can't really blame web designers/developers all the time. Sure whoever developed the Stagecoach site needs a few lessons in usability, but key stakeholders in these big companies often override best practices that web developers recommend and you end up with a hotch potch of a site. I have known CEO's to totally ruin a well functioning site more than once, despite them not being experts - unfortunatley they are the ones who pay the bills and have the final say.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-80569734543260115162014-07-22T13:32:09.886+01:002014-07-22T13:32:09.886+01:00Massaged statistics? Perhaps we should all get together and offer bus companies websites that are neither fancy nor twiddly but work well?Anonybusnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-4243118521538830152014-07-22T08:50:44.924+01:002014-07-22T08:50:44.924+01:00Doubtless statistics massaged by manufacturers of ...Doubtless statistics massaged by manufacturers of tablets and mobiles? It is perfectly possible to design a web site that works well on ALL platforms. You just have to cut out some of the fancy twiddly stuff which designers love to include to make it more difficult for users to find what they want.
