Portsmouth & Southsea is the main station in Portsmouth, which all trains serve. Not all trains serve Portsmouth Harbour.
Why would you have "Portsmouth & Southsea" and "Portsmouth Harbour" shown next to each other in a location as far away as Salisbury? That would just be daft.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-29414222199191398562013-10-18T15:34:04.528+01:002013-10-18T15:34:04.528+01:00Just to complicate matters, Salisbury station has ...Just to complicate matters, Salisbury station has two different versions of the alphabetical "Next fastest train" list:
:- in the booking hall, there are four little screens, with 8 stations listed on each;
- on Platform 2/3, there's one big screen, with 61 stations listed ( although there seems to be room for 62).

You might expect the 32-station list to be a subset of the 61-station list. But it is not so. The two lists have evidently been selected using different criteria. So Portsmouth Harbour appears on the short list in the booking hall, but not on the long list on the platform.

Although the long list doesn't include Portsmouth Harbour (which has an hourly service), it does include 15 stations which have only a few direct trains a day - for these staions, the next train time is shown as "Please Enquire" for much of the day.

It's a strange old world.
Stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01965936499218384410noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-31518530678198028122013-10-17T08:47:30.315+01:002013-10-17T08:47:30.315+01:00No, Anon, There was no "Portsmouth Harbour&qu...No, Anon, There was no "Portsmouth Harbour" on the list at all!fatbusblokehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06833340546527596517noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-90518537404930174322013-10-17T08:23:11.314+01:002013-10-17T08:23:11.314+01:00Not sure from the photo clips as posted, but the f...Not sure from the photo clips as posted, but the first looks like an alphabetical list of departures to stations (Portsmouth And... preceding Portsmouth Harbour presumably) while the platform indicator shows the final destination. Perhaps the alphabetical list is one of the infuriating "Screen 3 of 4" scrolling variety, which always seem to have just scrolled past the screen you want!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
