Last week, I was on a train from Exeter to Salisbury, and while we were sat in the platform at Axminster, the 31 bus arrived outside the station. A minute or so later, several groups of would-be passengers appeared, running along the opposite platform. Before they could get across the footbridge, the train pulled away, right on time.<br /><br />I can see that there are problems with time-keeping on a single-track railway, but I suspect that there's enough slack in the timetable to allow a train to leave Axminster a few minutes late without any serious knock-on effects. It doesn't have to pass another train until the Tisbury loop, nearly an hour away. (Well, it passes one near Sherborne, but that's on the long bit of double track, and the up train can be 10 minutes late there without upsetting the down train.)<br /><br />There's not much to be done when a bus is seriously late, but a bit of flexibility might help maintain connections when the delay is only 10 minutes or so.<br /><br />Stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01965936499218384410noreply@blogger.com
