The SAV fleet is to provide extra capacity on the existing tram network where needed.

In reality all 7 vehicles are identical and come with two different wheel sets - normal tram ones and tram-train ones.

Tram-train wheels/bogies can be used on Network Rail tracks and most of the Supertram network, tram wheels/bogies can be used on all the Supertram network but not Network Rail.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-85478652298219167362015-12-20T16:05:21.280+00:002015-12-20T16:05:21.280+00:00I have to disagree with some of your tramtrain com...I have to disagree with some of your tramtrain comments I'm afraid.

Sheffield-Huddersfield would not be more useful, in fact it wouldn't even really be a tram-train, it would just be an existing train service downgraded.

The point of the tram-train trial is to prove the concept for the UK - how such vehicles work with Network Rail systems, what safety rules need to be in place etc - should it be successfull then it can be rolled out to other parts of the UK with a number of potential schemes already in the queue!

However - there are benefits for the travelling public too and I think the Sheffield-Attercliffe-Rotherham-Parkgate service will prove popular. The parrallel bus services are slow and unreliable with a lot of traffic congestion issues, the existing Northern Rail train service is popular and well used but the infrastructure is at a point where additional services are not possible.

Tram-train takes advantage of existing tracks that have capacity to create a new Rotherham-Sheffield route that will be reliable and boast brand new rolling stock!

The Travelmaster tickets already in place will allow great flexibility for commuters, valid on any bus, train or tram in South Yorkshire.

The tram ticketing will offer great value for leisure travellers using the new service from Rotherham to places like Valley Centertainment, Sheffield Arena, Ice Sheffield and Hillsborough Stadium.

The tram train also links shopping opportunities at Parkgate retail world, Meadowhall, the new Ikea being built at Carbrook and Sheffield City Centre.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-16227611261940393352015-12-18T22:46:16.946+00:002015-12-18T22:46:16.946+00:00Deadman's Hole Lane still there on this July&#...Deadman's Hole Lane still there on this July's trawl by Google Streetview
https://goo.gl/maps/qWgdDWcPvcM2

Karlsruhe tramtrains also have theoretical DB numbers, though only those owned by DB display them overtly - such as in this picture here:
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/GT8-100C/2S#/media/File:450003_IMG_0863.jpgMan of Kentnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-61310143095432509702015-12-18T20:41:55.681+00:002015-12-18T20:41:55.681+00:00Deadman's Hole Lane used to emerge onto Sheffi...Deadman's Hole Lane used to emerge onto Sheffield Road at Tinsley, almost opposite Ferrars Road. The sign was there until a few years ago and I think may have read Dead Man's Hole Lane, as you quote, although maps tend to show it as 'Deadman's'. Deadman also exists as a surname in Sheffield. Part of the section of road shown on your map extract forms the current boundary between Sheffield and Rotherham metropolitan districts.RLThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15626240025799743043noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-91982384082746062632015-12-18T18:38:23.055+00:002015-12-18T18:38:23.055+00:00Sounds more reasonable, Anonymous 2.
