Sometimes it's even more basic - lack of power supply (solar isn't relaible enough). But making RTI available by text and (mobile) internet is inherently cheaper than spending £10,000 on a sign at the side of the road.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-88052999881075315032011-12-21T10:55:42.140+00:002011-12-21T10:55:42.140+00:00I have yet to see a place where "it is workin...I have yet to see a place where "it is working well"; but my visits are not, sadly, nationwide. York, Sheffield, Exeter?, Salisbury are all reasonably useless. The other BIG problem is that the systems tend to be used on frequent urban services and not infrequent rural services where they are really needed.<br />Haven't seen recent reports of Cumbria's efforts, but, clearly, Star Trak in Leics etc. was not workable either.fatbusblokehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06833340546527596517noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7432323264902617108.post-68842618659551171742011-12-21T09:56:11.112+00:002011-12-21T09:56:11.112+00:00The majority of these screens show only scheduled ...The majority of these screens show only scheduled information. But all the shiny new ticket machines that can read smartcards are usually capable of having a SIM card inserted, which creates the link needed for an RTI system. And in some places, it is working well. But Stagecoach has made a national decision not to participate in this so far, frustrating both local authorities and local management, not to mention the travelling public...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
